Frequently Asked Questions

What is your dog training philosophy? Positive reinforcement is a key part of a modern training approach, and it’s a highly effective way to teach dogs. Positive reinforcement means giving your dog something they want right after they perform a behavior so they’re likely to do that behavior again. For example, you ask the dog to sit, the dog sits, and you give them a treat. You might also have heard the terms force-free (or fear-free) training and clicker training; trainer Karen DiCostanzo is certified in both.

What is your service area? Matters of the Canine Kind is located in Lenexa, Kansas and provides dog training services throughout Johnson County, Kansas. In-home training makes it easy for you and we can even work with your pupper while you’re busy working, studying, running errands, or traveling.

Karen is awesome! We did a few in-home training sessions with her and saw an immediate difference in our dog. She is so incredibly knowledgeable about all things dog, is patient with her explanations and feedback, and is very flexible.
